Achievements Guide – HordeCore

admin

This is my walkthrough for HordeCore Achievements.

All obtainable achievements are listed here.

About the Guide

This is my first Guide for any game on Steam. I figured that I played so much, and enjoyed the game, that it’s worth a guide for.

The game is pretty simple and you should have not to trouble to collect the achievements, but if you need any hints, here is my guide.

A lot of the things I wrote were after I completed the game and had already collected most of the achievements. The instructions are written from observations and memory. At the release of the game, the achievements were not available, so I got them in my 2nd playthrough.

This means that some trigger moments could be wrong, and I have to rearrange the achievements in the right chronological order, based on your feedback.

So, if you guys have any comments, strategies or corrections please write them here and I will edit the guide.

Regarding The Poker-Man achievement from what I see and from what people have reported it has issues. I have talked with the developers and indeed it has some issues, but will be shortly looked on.

A lot of the achievements can be triggered only at certain moments, so doing them later mostly doesn’t work. These are locked to certain persons and locations, where you first interact with them. Luckily, these are story related and you should not have any issues getting them.

In the full game, you can load the save files from the DEMO, but I am not sure if the achievements are triggered. You have to check that. I loaded my files when the game had no achievements.

If, by loading save files from the demo, the achievements don’t trigger on the full game, please let me know so I can update the guide.

Demo no longer available.

General Game Information

Here are some general information about the game, that are not obvious and could take you a while to learn them

You should keep the survivors you generally take in missions well fed and hydrated. They will pa*sively heal. Also, upon unlocking skill points for your survivor level, this hunger/thirst will also affect the performance of your survivors, by them dealing more damage.

The game saves, when you enter the camp. So any modifications made while in camp, and quitting to menu will result in loss of progress. If you do modifications in the camp, you have to start the next mission. You can quit to the menu as soon as the missions start and your modifications will be saved.

You can unequip and equip items from other survivors.

If your inventory is full you can pause midgame, press I, and scrap all the items you don’t need.

You can move past the objective in your scavenging runs. Avoid the yellow circle, go around it and you can navigate to the end of the level. Usually, there is 1 or 2 more loot caches you can open. There are 4 on each map.

Don’t forget to equip modifications for your most played characters.

What does the Dog do? While having its Enraged Ability, it doubles your gun’s damage for your whole party.

Should I Bring 1 or 4 Survivors in my solo campaign? The difficulty scales only when you play with real people, either online or when you do couch co-op. So, even if you bring 1 survivor or 4, the XP and HP of the enemies are the same. Taking extra survivors tough will allow you to mop up enemies faster using their weapons and abilities. The only downside is that you might use more Food, Water, and Health Packs on a run, then solo.

Campaign Missions are the same, irrelevant of what path (road) you chose. The secondary missions are entirely up to you and how you reach the end game, but the only difference is the loot that you gain depending on your choices. The main missions of the Up Road are the same as the Down Road.

Achievement related note

Before entering the final mission, Crossroads please be sure to read the Guide’s Important Part.

Achievement Count

In HordeCore there are a total of 28 achievements.

At the moment of writing there are:

– 24 unskippable achievements

– 3 skippable achievements

– 1 Bugged, unobtainable achievement that I could not activate, and multiple people have had issues with it. Poker Man has been reported and worked on.

In those 24, there are 2 achievements that require 2 playtroughs. At the end of the story you are presented with 2 choices. Taking one decision will trigger that achievement. If you want to have the other achievement, you have to replay the campaign and make the opposite decision.

Story Achievements

Solo (Local) Campaign story

There is a hard difficulty in campaign achievement and multiple major choices that requires 2 playthroughs. You can play the campaign on the hard difficulty now, or the 2nd playthrough.

The achievements have been ordered in chronological order.

New Game -> Campaign -> Story – (Select your difficulty)

Just Went Shopping

Equip a new item.

You can do this in the first story mission, Woods by equipping the pistol. Open your inventory, select the pistol and equip it on Anna. Sometimes, this achievement triggers itself when starting the campaign.

Decision Maker

Make a dialog decision.

Triggers in the first mission, Woods, where you select if you decide to help Pyro or not.

DIY

Craft an item.

Pretty easy and should be doable even after the first quest Woods, go into the crafting menu and craft a mask or something. This achievement can be completed later at any time.

Master Chef

Cook something.

Pretty easy and should be doable after the first quest Woods, go into the crafting menu and cook something, even boiling Water or Cooked Meat, you should have some meat and water in your inventory. This achievement can be completed later at any time.

Sneaky Sneak

Walk-in Sneak mode.

Straightforward, just press Shift and you walk in stealth mode. The stealth system is introduced in the campaign mission City. You can trigger it at anytime, when you press shift for the first time.

Master of Cards

Play Horde Tactics.

In the story mission City, where you first get introduced to Gramps. Just play a game of cards with him and you will receive this achievement. This achievement is tied to the next one

Played by Gramps

Missable Trophy

Lost a match of Horde Tactics versus Gramps.

While playing Horde Tactics in your very first game, in the story mission City, lose the Horde Tactics game versus Gramps. You can do this by doing nothing and skipping the turn indefinitely. Until the game ends.

Collector

Open a pack of cards.

Most likely by now, you should have a pack of cards. I have listed the achievement here but it could be done at any time. You can open the pack now, and get the achievement here, no problem, although I advise you to wait until having 6 packs, because the next achievement that is tied with this one, for the moment is bugged.

Every pack gives you 5 cards.

Poker-Man

Complete your card collection.

This achievement is bugged.

I should have got it twice but it did not trigger. When you win card games or roam in the open world you will get a pack of cards, you can open those cards and you will receive cards for your deck. There are in total 46 unique cards. You can check them in Deck Manager while in camp.

You can skip the card game, by denying it, and you still get the cards.

So for the moment, my only advice is to open card packs, while in camp only when you get 6 packs. Be sure to check how many cards you are away from finishing the whole deck by using Deck Manager. I guess you could just save yourself for the last pack. Open it while in camp, and if you don’t get the achievement, quit the game, go back to camp and open it again. You could brute-force it but for me, it didn’t work.

Every pack gives you 5 cards.

As stated, you need 6 packs, you could get them easily in the campaign or by roaming. It seems they are hard capped at 9 packs.

You can go to all Tournament Missions (Card Symbol), Play/Deny the game and get the cards. Win or Skip, you still get the cards.

FOR THE GAUNTLET

Survive The Gauntlet.

Story mode-related quest. The second act of the Overpa*s story mission. Just survive the gauntlet. You can move in the corners of the map, left to right, and get the health packs occasionally dropped.

Blow ‘Em Up

Destroy a Mercenary Wagon.

Missable trophy

While in Story Mission Overpa*s, when you drive the car on the bridge, be sure to shoot in an opposing vehicle. As soon as an enemy car explodes and flips over you get the achievement.

KOBEEE!

Shoot an explosive round at a basketball hoop.

Missable Trophy: Mission Compound

In the story mission Compound, after pushing the first car to block the fence, you have a side objective to enter the house. Enter the house and upon exploring the house region you will find a basket hoop. Use your Grenadier (Sandy Susan) and shoot a projectile through the hoop. Be sure that the achievement activates, if not try again. You can even go under the hoop and shoot straight up, on its return it will come back through the hoop.

Size Doesn’t Matter

Defeat the Guardian.

Unskippable Achievement received upon beating The Guardian in the story mission The Road.

I Choo-Choo-Choose You

Defeat Ron The Rammer.

Unskippable Achievement received upon beating Ron The Rammer in story mission Ruined City.

Just get in the car, go the last cart, and as close as you can to the railing, towards the train. Everything should be 1 shot. The further you go the harder to hit will become, requiring multiple hits.

Totally Swamped

Defeat the Bog Beast.

Unskippable Achievement received upon beating The Bog Beast in mission Swamp, part of the Story Campaign.

Hammer Time

Defeat Bob.

Unskippable Achievement received upon beating Bob in mission Construction Yard, part of the Story Campaign.

Story Achievements – An Important Choice

Hired goon and Holy Scrap!

Main campaign decision. Requires multiple playthroughs to achieve both of the following achievements.

Before the last mission, Crossroads, you have to decide to choose which camp you support and which faction you will fight against. Woodland Camp and Industrial Camp. Upon making a choice you will get one of the achievements. Getting the other requires replaying of the solo campaign.

After starting the mission, the actual level you cannot go back to camp to craft healing and gear, you will be stuck in the final fight of the level. That is why I recommend stocking up on items and gearing your survivors accordingly to the path you choose.

Hired Goon

Take the Mercenaries’ side.

If you choose to play with Woodland Survivors (Anna, Pyro, Doc + one other survivor of your choosing) vs Gadget, Wesley, Mag and Sa*sy Susan.

The Industrial camp Survivor characters become unplayable very shortly after the campaign mission Construction Yard. The last usable quest for them is the second next mission which is either Forest of Death 8.4, Mysterious Desert 8.5 Dark Suburbs 8.6. depending on your chosen path.

At the moment there is a bug, where after finishing the camp you will receive the opposite faction unequiped loot so just before the ending of one of this quests, 8.4/8.5/8.6 unequip all of your characters loot and put them in the inventory. After completing the campaign you will carry on with that loot. The equiped loot on the ooposite faction characters will gets lost.

Before entering Crossroads, which is the last mission, be sure to have at least 10 medkits on your Woodland Characters geared up. Don’t forget to have food and water.

*The reversed loot will get fixed eventually and has been reported.

Holy Scrap!

Take the Scrappers’ side.

If you chose to use the Industrial Camp (Gadget, Kyra, Sa*sy Susan, and one of your choosing) you will fight the Woodland Camp Survivors consisting of Anna, Shady Shanon, Johnson, Doc.

The Woodland Camp Survivor characters become unplayable very shortly after the campaign mission Construction Yard. The last usable quest for them is the next mission which is either Mysterious Desert 8.1 Forest of the Shadows 8.2, Suburbs of the Undead 8.3 depending on your chosen path.

At the moment there is a bug, where after finishing the camp you will receive the opposite faction unequiped loot so just before the ending of one of this quests, 8.2/8.3/8.4 unequip all of your characters loot and put them in the inventory. After completing the campaign you will carry on with that loot. The equiped loot on the opposite faction characters will gets lost.

Before entering Crossroads, which is the last mission, be sure to have at least 10 medkits on your Industrial Camp Characters geared up. Don’t forget to have food or water.

*The reversed loot will get fixed eventually and has been reported.

Before entering the fight please check the next section.

A bit of help before the Crossroads boss fight

A bit of help before the Crossroads boss fight

This wasn’t originally written for the guide, but guessing you are playing this on Hard I can offer a bit of insight.

The game is heavy-loot-oriented, as you could see by now. The armor equipped is very important in this encounter. So try to equip on 4 characters the best armor you can put. You can s*rip gear from other survivors that you won’t fight with and optimize the best loot you can.

Try to craft epic armor and weapons. Optimize for better armor.

Equip any Ability Modifier that you can use. Even if not ideal, it’s a 100+ power boost on your characters.

Have 15 medkits, and have food and water on you so you can keep your fighters on top.

*As the loot pools after finishing the game are bugged, and you get the other side loot, for the moment on patch 1.7, I could go even further and try to scrap everything you don’t need and craft the best gear as you possibly can.

They will hit hard, and any damaging skill-stat that you selected in your skill tree will hit you even harder. As they use the same progression system.

Once the stage commences, you cannot go back to the camp to edit, so what you bring in the fight is what you get.

You will fight some basic humans which should not be a problem.

PAUSE when needed, and put food and meat in your survivor’s bodies. It heals them, not only pa*sively, but you heal them directly without being a dead body in the middle of the fight.

I recommend healing with medkits when under 45% HP and when the mobs are not present, as one or 2 hits of them could negate all the amount of healing you did.

The first boss is an engineer. You will have some enemy spawns but should not pose a big problem. This should not cost you more than 1 or 2 health packs.

Due to the fact that the enemies use barricades, and depending on the character, you will control, please be mindful of the distance and alignment you use when fighting the bosses. You could overshoot or undershoot. Try to be wary of that. The biggest issue is actually lining the shots.

The 2nd boss is a Sniper, which will eat your HP if you don’t have good armor. More humans will begin spawning so be sure to clear them as fast as you can. You should also start moving a lot vertically, upwards, and downwards. You could limit your interaction with the sniper by putting abilities where he will be or where he is. Easier said than done. Always be aware of the barricades, to not overshoot and undershoot.

This is where the hardest part of the fight is. Focus moving, focus zombies, try to take shots on the boss. Rotate characters who stay in the line of sight, and not let one take too many other hits.

The 3rd boss is more chilled, being a gunner. Gunners don’t do that much damage unless you stay in front of them not moving at all. So just move up and down, stay further away from him and pop abilities and you should be fine. The real issue here starts to be the other humans and if you don’t take care of them you could be stuck in a hard situation.

Still should be doable, and just an annoying task on wearing the enemy boss HP. I had mostly no trouble here and I even regenerated health.

The 4th Boss is a Grenadier. And it will suck. You have to constantly not only move up and down but also right or left. You cannot farm long distances forever. It will eventually shoot you too, and when it hits, it will hurt, a lot, like 30 – 50% HP every hit. This is the hardest challenge. Not only the damage inflicted is big, not only the map will get filled by enemy humans, and it will take a while until you finish the last boss. It does 1 hit and then it moves. So you have to chase a lot, hit, and move before grenadier’s projectile hits you. Here you could use even 4-5 health packs and all your food. Hopefully, you made it. If not try, try and try again.

Remember how the barricades work, multiple times you won’t do damage cause you to overshoot or undershoot, and sometimes because the game decides to say no. I had 2-3 minute situations where it was 1 hit and I couldn’t hit the last boss, which almost resulted in a wipe.

Upon completing the challenge, you will complete the Story Mode.

Finishing the story and clearing it’s achievements

If you completed everything above you should find yourself in the following situation

How I met your Nana

Complete the Story Campaign.

Will trigger after you beat the last boss, the 4 survivors from the opposing camp. Story related, last mission, Crossroads.

Through Hell and Back

Complete the Story Campaign in Hard difficulty.

Will trigger as soon as you complete the campaign on hard difficulty, mission Crossroads.

Is Anyone Out There?

Play the Wastelands mode.

Should be achieved after you complete the campaign and reach the Wastelands camp. If, for some reason the achievement doesn’t trigger, go to menu, start a new game, pick Wastelands mode and the achievement should pop.

My Savior!

Rescue a Survivor.

You get this achievement while in the Wasteland area and doing Escape missions. Upon agreeing and deciding to welcome the survivor in your camp you will get this achievement. You can get this achievement also while playing online Wasteland.

Level bound achievements

Getting the Hang Of This

Reach level 5.

Self-explanatory will trigger automatically once you reach level 5. Depending on your difficulty will happen pretty fast.

Over Nine Thousaaand

Earn over 9000 experience points.

Related to your level, should happen shortly after reaching level 5.

Untapped Potential

Reach level 10.

Self-explanatory will trigger automatically once you reach level 10.

Limitless

Reach level 15.

Most likely you got this exactly after completing the campaign or few mission before. Just carry on playing.

Lord of the Wastes

Reach level 20.

This achievement can be completed by carrying on, with your campaign survivors from the single-player experience, in Wastelands.

I also advise you to put points into XP gains as soon as you can, or better yet, after you finish the campaign buy a skill reset drink, and try to invest in the gain XP and kill Hordelings/Humans faster.

You get XP by killing enemies, so the more enemies you can gather and the faster you can do it, the faster the progress.

The way to get fast XP is to play Wasteland on modes with loot caches.

No ambushes, no extermination, just Scavenge modes.

If you play solo, get all your survivors and farm XP as the XP doesn’t get deducted, you just do more damage vs the same HP enemies.

If you play online, host the server and play alone. Other players will bump up the enemies’ HP and will take you longer to kill enemies. Besides people could end the game at any moment.

You can complete the required objectives from the mission and just avoid the end marker, go past it, and farm some more caches and enemies. Once you did that, stay near the end marker and just farm kills. If anything bad happens go in the end marker and complete it.

I did this with my online character.

*Difficulty does not influence XP Gains, only Enemies HP and Drop Rates from loot.

Online achievements

The following achievement can be completed while playing online.

That’s What Friends Are For

Play a Multiplayer match.

I advise you to do it like this. Start a multiplayer server:

Multiplayer -> Host Server

This way, you can also select your starting character. After that either host and play a game, or quit and join a game of others.

Start the online mode, select your character and get in the camp. You should get the achievement as soon as you click Online. If not, just play 1 multiplayer match.

End Credits

This guide has been written by myself from my 25+ hour gameplay experience. Yes, even I can’t believe I played that much.

Is my first guide on anything.

Maybe I over-explained some stuff, as the game is meant just to be fun short, and casual but this is the guide.

With this guide, you should be able to get 27 out of the 28 total achievements of the game.

The bugged achievement will be shortly addressed and fixed eventually. From the communication with the developers, it should pop on automatically on your Steam Profile, when the game will be patched. If you followed my instructions you should be eligible for it.

If there are any mistakes in this guide and you want to correct them, please let me know what I wrote wrong in the comment sections and I will fix it.

I thank the developers for taking their time and answering a lot of my questions and checking every report I’ve made on every small aspect.

They seem inclined to fix and improve the game as much as they could.

In the span of 2 days since release, I’ve seen a lot of fixes already made.

There will be future content coming for HordeCore.
