Big Noise In The Desert! What? – Sable

admin

So you’re cruising through the desert, and suddenly you hear a big boom, or something cracking, and you don’t know what it was because there’s nothing nearby. The short answer is that you crossed the trigger boundary for one of the Hicaric Monuments or the Wind Tower to get loaded into memory, and it’s re-doing its ‘puzzle complete’ audio. This guide will go over what that sounds like, and where the boundaries are.

Introduction

First, we’ll go over the sounds you’re likely to hear while going through the deserts. Then I’ll show each individual monument’s audio trigger border, then the Wind Tower’s trigger border.

After each individual map, I’ll show all of the zones together on the same map.

The sounds of the desert

First up, the big sound you can hear all through the deserts of Midden, the sound of a Hicaric Monument being activated. When you “approach” one of the monuments, you pa*s a trigger border where I’m a*suming the monument gets loaded into memory, and the puzzle to raise it out of the sand gets re-solved, playing the audio and emitting a dust cloud.

You can see the dust cloud for yourself in certain circumstances. If you fast travel to The Dunboyne from somewhere outside the trigger range and swing your camera to the left, that’s the easiest way. You can also see it if you save your game while looking at a monument, then quit and re-load that game. You can see the Sodic Waste monument emitting a dust cloud in the distance if you have a fast bike and approach from the southeast.

Anyway, here’s the sound.

Here’s what a monument dust cloud looks like from a loaded game.

Next, the crackling, breaking sound you can hear in a few places. That’s the webbing on top of the Wind Tower being torn off to restart it, being triggered again when you’re approaching the Wind Tower.

It’s possible to trigger the Wind Tower and then a monument shortly after. You might hear something like this.

Finally, there are a handful of places where you might cross two monument trigger borders in quick succession, so the sound overlaps, sounding like this.

Next up, the maps of the monument trigger borders, clockwise from top left, the Redsee.
