How To Check your MMR without a Competitive Rank – Team Fortress 2

You should want to know your MMR before you have a rank. Why? Having high MMR is never a good thing, and winning 3 or more consecutive matches without a rank can lock you out of competitive mode. Want to learn how to avoid it? Follow this guide.

The Problem

The Blue Moon update introduced some much-needed mechanics to Competitive mode

The biggest change to comp was the addition of skill-based matchmaking. Before, you could queue into matches as Fresh Meat and be facing against top ranked players. Players of equal skill level were not put together, which defeated the purpose of having a ranked matchmaking system.

An unforeseen side-effect of this fix though, was that there are not enough players queueing for matches to be found at all skill levels; thus, it is now your responsibility to ensure your MMR meets the average MMR of players queueing.

The Solution

Knowing your MMR can help you decide whether or not you want to win or lose your next rank match

If you’re not okay with throwing comp matches you can stop reading right now. You’re going to need to if you want to play this gamemode more than twice.

The average MMR is between 1450 and 1700. Keeping your MMR in this range will ensure you find matches quickly.
