Before you start

Before you start it is highly recommended that you backup your star bound files in the case you mess up and need to revert back

Difficulty cheat sheet

here is the text that is used to a*sign your characters difficulty

Casual

“modeTypecasual”

Survival

“modeTypesurvival”

Hardcore

“modeTypehardcore”

Finding your player file

this file and many other player related files can be found in your “steamapps\common\Starbound\storage\player” folder

look for the files with the “.player” extension

to determine weather a file is the the correct player file there are ways of figuring it out

a) loading up that player from starbound and seeing and seeing the “date modified” date on the files to see what was the most recent player file used

b) opening the player file with a program like notepad and pressing “ctrl+f” and searching for your player name within in the file

Modifying your player file

open your file with notepad or notepad++

to find the text used to a*sign your players difficulty press “ctrl+f” and search for “modeType” to find the text that is used to a*sign your players difficulty

once you have found the text replace the “modeTypecasual”, “modeTypesurvival”, “modeTypehardcore” whatever text you have to your difficulty of choice

then you can save the file and if all is done correct you can then start/restart the game and enjoy your changed difficulty player
