You could just click the link and see the data. However, I made some observations while doing it and wanted to share those observations. So I made a few parts detailing these observations. It is not a complete guide but it is hopefully enough.

If I discover new information or make changes to the doc, I will update it.

General info on drivers

At the time this article was written (30/08/2022 – there were 90 drivers at play at the start of each game. That includes:

  • The 20 F1 racers of the 2022 Season, evidently
  • 10 F1 reserve drivers (1 per team)
  • 22 F2 drivers
  • 30 F3 drivers
  • 8 free-agents for drivers who were substitutes during F2 or F3 in 2022

Denis Moreau, one of the 22 F2 drivers, is the fictional driver. He starts out driving for Carlin in a car that should be attributed Lawson. Lawson could not be AlphaTauri’s reserve and a F2 drive at the same moment, so I think the devs created this imaginary driver to fill that gap. Although technically this isn’t a newgen since he appears on every save with the exact same attributes, he does not have any nationality.

The free-agents refer to drivers who acted as substitutes for other drivers in F2/F3 or F3 until the Austrian GP. Therefore, at the time this game was released, drivers like Christian Mansell* or Oliver Goethe or Tatiana Calderon (that joined the F2/F3 grid in Hungarian GP are not, although they could be added in a future patch. In any case, I will update the document if there are any additions or changes.

* This is not related to Nigel.

Driver Ratings

There are two sheets that can be used to calculate driver ratings:

  • One sheet with only the overall ratings (OVR)
  • Detailled sheet with all attributes for each driver and other details

The table below shows the OVR value. When Frontier began to release final driver ratings for Ferrari, Red Bull, and Mercedes people (included) quickly realized that OVR is not an average across all attributes, but that some attributes have more weight. The community doesn’t have a definitive answer.
Reddit user The_Jacko has found a formula almost working – [reddit.com]

I’m using his formula for “Calc OVR”, the calculated values that differ from the actual OVR have been outlined. This formula was also used by me to a*sign Hamilton a rank.

Here’s an overview of all driver attributes

AttributeDescription
CorneringThe ability to maintain speed through corners. This allows drivers to go faster through corners and improve lap times.
BrakingThe ability to brake faster. This allows drivers brake later in corners to improve lap times without running too wide or causing racing incidents.
ReactionsThe ability to react quickly and accurately to events. This allows the driver more speed in corners and a quicker pull-off when the lights go on at the start.
AccuracyThe ability to follow the racing track as accurately and accurately as possible. This reduces the possibility of a driver losing time, or their car getting damaged from running wide while racing.
ControlThe ability to prevent racing incidents. This reduces the chances of the driver running wide, spinning, colliding, or locking up.
SmoothnessThis allows for a reduction in tyre wear when racing. This allows drivers the freedom to push harder and do longer stints with each set.
AdaptabilityThe ability of adapting to adverse weather conditions. This improves the driver’s acceleration as well as cornering speed on tyres which are not suited for wetter track conditions.
OvertakeThe ability of pa*sing other drivers. This allows the driver more overtakes and less racing incidents.
DefendingThe ability to defend your position while racing. This reduces the possibility of another driver successfully overtaking you.

Most of the attributes are quite self-explanatory. Reactions is the “Thottle”, while Adaptability is the “wetweather” skill.

Both Aggression (Driver potential) and Aggression (Aggression) are displayed on the menus in either “Low”, or “Medium” or “High” values. However, Driver Potential is actually a number (. I believe this is also the case with Aggression). The potential exact value can also be seen at each race’s end on your experience screen. I have left the values “Low”, ‘Medium” and ‘High” at the moment. I will add the figures if there is a better way or I have the time.

It is possible that the attributes of F2/F3/free driver agents might not be exact at this time. These ratings are derived from scouting that was done 10 days after the game started. Those drivers can gain a point, or even two, during that period. I could sign for some of them on Day 1 (. All I need is time). However, the other will not work due to reasons I’ll explain on the Driver contracts section. This is because I don’t have access yet to the game data.

Driver contracts

The “Driver contract” shows you the contract situation of every F1 racer at the start. I don’t know much about F2/F3 driver details, but I can see that their contracts expire at the end of 2022. This makes it quite inconsequential to hire them.

Driver position

This is the driver’s position in your team. As far as I can tell, there isn’t any difference between Car 1 (Hamilton) and Car 2 (Verstappen).

You should note that if a reserve driver is promoted, it will always come at the expense the race driver being replaced. The replaced driver will not be demoted to reserve, but will be effectively fired.

Eligible drivers

F1 is not for everyone. Not all drivers are eligible to sign in F1. In real life you have the option to get the superlicence by fulfilling certain requirements, including achieving good results over a period 3 years to earn enough points. But in-game the system works differently and there’s no points system. This is due to the crude integration of F2 and F3 into the game.

To be eligible to sign for your (team, a driver must satisfy two conditions. Race and Reserve drivers).

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Two seasons racing in F3 or F2

If you can’t offer a contract of employment to a young driver, it will likely be because one of these reasons.

F2 and F3 drivers will not be allowed to race in F1 at their start. You’ll have to wait 2023, 2024 or 2025 to sign them to you team.

Fun fact: Federico Malvestiti (32 OVR) is the worst F3 driver that you can sign before the game begins.

Breaking contracts, buyout fees

You have to pay the cost for breaking the contract with the driver you want to replace (if applicable). A buyout fee is also required.

If you want to replace Bottas in the game at Alfa Romeo but you also want to replace Perez with Bottas, you would need to break Bottas’ contract ($15.9M, ouch and purchase Perez current contract at Red Bull Red Bull ($19.8M, double ouch). It can add up quickly if both the driver that you are looking to replace or his replacement have long contracts.

The formula for the cost of breaking a contract with one of your drivers is roughly this:

(days remaining) x ((yearly salary / 365) / 2)

The formula above won’t give the exact amount (. However, it will give an idea of the general idea.

It is basically half of the annual salary. However, it is recalculated daily so that the contract is broken less often.

Because the game begins on March 7, and contracts all run to December 31, ((or later)), it costs about the same to break a contract on day one of the save.

Contract endingBreaking costs

March 7, 2007, contract

(% of the yearly salary

31/12/202241%
31/12/202391%
31/12/2024141%
31/12/2025191%
31/12/2026241%

If you wait until March 17th ((10 days after the game has started) and take the time to find a driver) in order to sign a driver, or key staff member, you can save about 1% on the cost of breaking the contract.

General info on key staff

Each team has 4 key staff members.

  • Technical Chief (TC EB17Y
  • A Head in Aerodynamics (HOA)
  • Two Race Engineers (RE), one for each Driver

OVR is the average of all attributes for key staff. I have placed the scouted value for F2/F3/freeagents staff. I am less concerned that they will gain points during the 10-day period necessary to scout, as they gain experience at lower rates than drivers.

For experience, the base value of 100 XP per workweek is included with your facilities’ bonuses (team hub).

The RE roster includes 72 RE: 20 being F1, 22 F2 (F2) and 30 F3 ((). 1 per car, basically).

TC, HOA and HC have 22 players each on their rosters before the start of the game.

  • 10 in F1
  • 6 Free-Agents that are the exact same in each save
  • 6 newgens free-agents

The six fixed free-agents TC for Ti Chuong, Ji Ning Ji Ning Bea Moore Michael Huber, and John Lusmore are: Ti Choong, Nisha Kan, Ji Ning, Ji Ning, Ti Chuong, Ji Ning, Ji Ning, Bea Moor, and John Lusmore

The six fixed HOA-free agents are: SaleemIndongo. Sharifa Lobbo. Roberta Pellegrini. Nicolas Petit. MasaoEno. Christopher Bousher.

McLaren appear to have fictional names of their staff, as pointed by some players. Will Joseph, Tom Stallard and Tom Stallard are note McLaren REs. It is possible that there were licensing problems and that it will not be fixed.

F1 key personnel are generally better than F2/F3 or Free-Agents counterparts, with some exceptions

  • Technical Chief (TC EB17Y
  • A Head in Aerodynamics (HOA)
  • Two Race Engineers (RE), one for each Driver

Race Engineer Ratings

These are the Race Engineer characteristics:

AttributeDescription
Pit crew managementThe ability to communicate effectively with and prepare the pit crew during races. A higher rating can mean faster pit stops for race engineers’ paired drivers.
CommunicationCommunication skills. A higher rating equals faster affinity growth for the race engineer with their paired driver.
FeedbackThe ability to provide and understand feedback about the car’s setup during practice sessions. A higher rating indicates that the feedback received during practice is more rapid.

Each RE also has an affinity attribute for the driver based on the amount of time spent in the driver’s company (in weeks,), as well as his communication skills. The drivers who just joined their (team are the ones that start the game. Bottas, Albon) drivers have 0 week paired up with their RE and a low affection. Drivers who have spent 52 weeks with their teams have a good relationship and a great affinity. Those who spend more than two years with their team also have a great connection.

Technical Chief Ratings

Technical Chiefs’ ratings don’t need much explanation. Each attribute corresponds directly to a car component. The more attributes the TC has at developing the car part, then the rating is better.

  • Cha*sis
  • Front Wing
  • Rear Wing
  • Sidepods
  • Floor
  • Suspensions

Ratings for Aerodynamics Head

Similar to Technical Chiefs. Not much to say. Head of aerodynamics have an influence on car attributes. But, the difference is that different car parts can affect each car attribute.

  • Cooling: Brake cool (Front Wing & Suspensions) and Engine cooling (Cha*sis, Sidepods)
  • DRS Delta A (Rearwing)
  • High Speed Downforce A (Front Wing and Rear Wing, underfloor and suspensions)
  • Medium Speed Downforce A (Front Wing and Rear Wing, underfloor and suspensions)
  • Low Speed Downforce Rear Wing, Front Wing and Underfloor of (
  • Drag Reduction Cha*sis, Rearwing, Sidepods and Undefloor, (
  • Airflow Management: Sidepods and Suspensions Front (Front Wing), Airflow Middle (Cha*sis), and Airflow Middle Airflow Middle (Sidepods and Sidepods
  • Airflow Sensitivity Underfloor) Front Wing, Rearwing, and Rear Wing

Key Staff Contracts

All Key Staff contracts only have two attributes: the length and the yearly pay. No need to worry about bonus payments.

As with drivers, the cost for breaking a contract equals half the yearly salary. Please see the Driver Contracts section.
